Fighting forced adoption: a disabled mum u0026 her child speak out

Jean Eveleigh Is a member of the Disabled Mothers’ Rights Campaign. She fought for years to stop her child being forcibly adopted after her disability was ignored by social workers (or dismissed as her “laziness”) which meant she didn’t get the support she needed. Even though some years later the family court agreed the adoption might not have happened if she had got support, it was too late. For 16 years she sent cards every birthday and Christmas and wrote letters twice a year via social services (“Letterbox contact”). Her daughter Tye Gee had an unhappy adoption and found her birth mum on social media soon after turning 18, when they cut all ties with their adoptive family. Now reunited, both speak powerfully about the impact of the years stolen from them.
