Learn a very simple technique to achieve solid shading in your figure drawing. In this video I explain how to use gesture and contour drawing to create fluid and dynamic line work for shading. This approach really helps to avoid making two common mistakes: drawing flat shadows, and drawing shadows too dark. I would recommend that you use a charcoal pencil, and bristol paper, but you can use this drawing technique with nearly any material (maybe not compressed charcoal, shadows will be way to dark).
