Uninhabited for over 100 years the Hottentos Bay area in Namibia has now been filmed for the first time. Join the Conservation Film Foundation crew and Rudolf Dausab as we explore the rugged beauty and rich history of the Concession North of Lüderitz up to Hottentots Bay in Namibia, a region that remained uninhabited for many decades due to its designation as part of the restricted Sperrgebiet, a diamond mining area.

History buffs will delight in exploring the remnants of the area's colonial past, including abandoned diamond mines and ghost towns that offer a glimpse into Namibia's storied history. Take a guided tour with Rudolf to learn about the area's rich cultural heritage, including the traditions of the indigenous Topnaar people who have inhabited this land for generations.

In a dramatic turn of events on February 25, 2013, the bulk cargo carrier Frotamerica broke free from its tow and moorings, ultimately running aground approximately 30 kilometers north of Lüderitz. The repercussions of this incident rippled beyond the vessel itself, as pollution from the 35,000tonne behemoth threatened the delicate ecosystem surrounding Ichaboe Island. Nearby marine life and seabirds suddenly found themselves at risk, highlighting the profound impact of maritime accidents on the environment.

For the adventurous traveler, the Concession offers ample opportunities for outdoor pursuits such as hiking, birdwatching, and 4x4 driving along the towering dunes that stretch along the coastline. And for those seeking a more leisurely experience, simply soak in the breathtaking vistas and serene beauty of this untouched wilderness.
