Today I conducted a final and last proficiency check on a good friend that I trained some 18 years ago. Gary first upgraded to Captain on the Boeing 747200 ‘Classic’ Superjet (with Flight Engineer)18 years ago. I was the Base training captain that did his first takeoff and landings in the Left seat for his command upgrade on the aircraft. In those days we used to use on occasion, Prestwick airport. We would pick up the aircraft at Manchester airport after it arrived from Dubai. Once it was offloaded, I would hop in with my students for touch and goesGary previously flew the Hawk, Jaguars and the Tornado in the Royal Air Force he is a top pilot. With 15 minutes or so to spare, Gary had a last request to fly the Kai Tak approach of old Hong Kong airport. We even flew under the Tsing Ma bridge that leads to the new Hong Kong airport a bit of fun go Gary.
