One of the obvious challenges with a classic hot rod build is getting the engine to fit, especially if you’re stuffing a monster Hemi engine into a vintage Model A Ford. And perhaps the toughest part of the job is firewall placement, because it’s way more involved than simply making space—you’ll still want to have access to the rear of the engine to, say, remove the valve covers or make a distributor adjustment. Our resident hot rod experts, the McFarlands, explain how important the firewall is in the engine fitment mix—and they’ll show you some nifty firewall and transmission tunnel fabrication tips along the way.
