First dawless deep progressive house jam w. TR-8s and piano feat. Model D SE-02 u0026 JX-08

Synths For Breakfast

Finally, after several weeks of being busy building the “secret fx stompbox” I had some time to make another jam session. This one was pretty tough though, as it was my first time jamming with the TR8s. While recording, I made many little mistakes by pressing wrong buttons and, because to my misfortune I’m a perfectionist, I had to stop and record all over again. The placement of the gear wasn’t optimal, so I guess that also played a role. It took me few days to put together everything and then, another couple of days to record the jam. By the way, the piano part was totally improvised, but everything else was sequenced with the KSP. I really liked the TR8s, specially the sidechain effect on the external input which allows me to simplify my setup a bit, by not using the Alesis compressor that I used in my previous jams. The TR8s also makes the performance much easier than the Model:Samples which I’ve been using as a drum machine. The 11 independent tracks, plus dedicated volume faders and buttons per track are really life savers for live stuff. Regarding the other gear used in this jam, for the main bass I used one of the two parts of the bitimbral mode that JX08 offers. The second part plays the first lead (or should I say, pad?). I used only JX08 effects for both parts. The Model D plays the bassy sound that you can hear just after the intro. No fx here, just the dry signal. The SE02 is the second lead which is processed by the “secret fx stompbox” adding chorus, delay and reverb. As you can see, I tweak the filter cutoff on the three synths to add some dynamics and tension. Finally, the Yamaha piano was sent to a Zoom MS70CDR for the spacious and rich reverb (pretty complex fx chain, btw). So, I hope you enjoy this one and as always, make sure to listen with headphones!
