➡ As I begin to explore bands from the English punk rock and "new wave" scenes, I keep noticing some very unique production choices. But, above all else, this might be one of the boldest bass tones I've covered on the channel so far. The most interesting thing about the bass tone is that it's utilized within the band's gentler, bouncy sound which allows bassist JJ Burnel to audibly shine from start to finish. I discuss his approach to dancing around the song's root notes with syncopated arpeggios, how his groove and phrasing choices complement the song's feel, his strong use of rests and space, my theory on the artistic choice behind the weird synth solo, and how the song's melodic backbone is completely driven by his bass lines. ‍
