Fitting a Scythe Nib

FortyTwoBlades

The process we use inhouse for fitting all of our factorysupplied Seymour Midwest replacement nibs to ready them for installation.

The long anvil used for truing the nib band is a blowhorn stake. Most people will not have access to one of these, but it makes the job easy! A length of black iron pipe in a sturdy vise may be used as an improvised standin, but is comparatively fiddly. Folks attempting such work themselves to tighten a loosened nib on an old snath will find careful blows to the shoulder of the loop will help keep the shape as distortionfree as possible.
