Flight Deck Posture

Sit like this to avoid dysfunctional static spinal alignment.

Muscular “over” and “under” activation depends on a person’s activities and environment.

Sometimes we have “overactive” muscles which are being subconsciously contracted by our nervous system. This over contraction affects the muscle length relationship between the other muscles involved to move a joint and cause postural dysfunction.

The idea is to have optimum length and tension as close to equal as possible on the muscles surrounding the joint.

In this case the Pectoral (chest) and Upper Traps (red arrow on video) are overactive, while our Mid and Lower Traps (blue arrows) are under active. Consciously work on activating the Mid and Lower traps, and stretch the Upper Traps and Chest.

Hope this helps!!
