Flight. FPV. Clouds.

Ritewing Zephyr II surfing the cumulous clouds. This is the reason I started flying FPV.

This day started out like any typical spring morning in the south. The cumulous clouds began building and I knew that it would be an epic day to shoot some fpv from the Ritewing Zephyr II. I launched and began to climb through 5000 feet quickly. The Zephyr II is using a 4s 5000 pack and Hacker A30 8XL v2 motor, so its lightweight and powerful, almost capable of vertical climbs.

Once at the cloud base, I scooted around, exploring the clouds and running the ridges as if they were solid white mountains. I began to climb one cloud and caught a convective updraft that pushed me higher and higher. Pretty soon I was at 9500 feet, which caught me off guard. I fly a lot of fpv and watch my OSD information regularly as it displays ground speed, altitude, rate of climb, distance from home, etc. However it seemed as if I blinked my eyes and went from 6000 feet to 9500 feet. I knew I was in an updraft so I rode it up to the top of a cumulous cloud. My reception was great with the lawmate 1w 1.2 vtx and 9.5 dbi helical antennas.

This was the best fpv cloud flight I have done and I'm eagerly awaiting the start of a new season to hit the clouds very soon.
