Flow Asynchrony on Volume Controlled Mechanical Ventilation
Flow asynchrony is a type of ventilatorpatient dyssynchrony that occurs when the mechanical flow is inadequate for the patient’s demand. It can cause patient discomfort, air hunger, and increased work of breathing. Flow asynchrony is more common in volume control mode of ventilation because the flow is fixed and may not match the patient’s needs.
