The FMS P39 goes together quickly. I received mine on a Tuesday afternoon and the test flights were Thursday morning. The kit includes a powerful electric motor, ESC for up to a four cell lipo, four bladed prop and spinner, retractable gear, seven servos for wing flaps, ailerons, nose gear steering, elevator and rudder. The P39 is made from durable EPO foam and the finish is very well done. I liked the model a lot. Please note that you will have to supply a receiver, transmitter and lipo battery. Everything else is included.

The model assembles quickly. The photo illustrated manual is a big help. You will need to connect all the servos with their control surfaces, attach the wing with the included four screws and mount the horizontal trail surfaces. That is really about it.

The ready to fly yellow P39 includes a Reflex gyro/flight assist function. The directions were not clear on how to set this up and internet research did not help much. I am not a fan of flight assist modes with RC model aircraft so I decided to simply remove the Reflex controller box. The P39 flew just fine. It is a cool airplane and the electric retracts worked perfectly.

The other item is the length of the control music wire from the servo to the control horns. For all surfaces (except for the elevator) the wire was about 0.25" short of what was needed. I used a technique of overlapping music wire with heat shrink tubing to connect the servo to the control surface, as shown in the video. FMS has been informed of this and will include correct control rod lengths in the P39 kit.

The P39 has tons of power with a three cell lipo. Flights went just fine. The model handled well and the plane flew exactly where you pointed it. In short, and completely honest airplane. The retractable landing gear is robust and the landing flaps extremely effective. This is a great airplane to fly, and note again without the use of gyros.
