Hello Hoppers! Although I had been to Frankfurt many times (especially to the airport) I had never really taken a "tour" of the city. I was amazed at how much I was able to see in ONE day! My dear friend, LDEM, must take credit for this, as she guided me through the city like a real pro. Thank youuuuuu!
For me the best word to describe Frankfurt is BUSY. It is the business and financial center of Germany and the home of the European Central Bank. It has one of the world's largest stock exchanges and the third largest airport in Europe. Unlike most European cities, it has a skyline and so it is sometimes referred to as "Mainhattan," getting Main (pronounced mine) from the river located in the city. Yet, it is a liveable city, offering a broad selection of shops, from highend to discount, and a rich collection of museums and cultural events. It has excellent public transportation and plenty to do. Can't miss a visit to an applewine tavern or a stroll along the Main River. It also hosts some of Europe's largest trade fairs, including the Frankfurt Auto Show and the Frankfurt Book Fair. So Frankfurt is a great city to visit and to live in!
