We were granted access to GE Wales, One of the largest aircraft engine maintenance facilities in the world, to create a short docufilm covering their Aircraft Engine Maintenance and Test Facility.

Here we have a short video focusing on the Delivery and pretest area, where the engines are subjected to initial borescope inspection before going through to the Maintenance line. Engines in this hall are also prepared for testing, where fan blades, casing and other components are fitted prior to test.

Here’s a MaxThrust test with a GE90115B. After the startup, the engine is run for 60seconds to check temperatures and parameters are operating correctly. The operator (located inside the test Station) then pushes the engine thrust lever to full power.

About the GE90 Engine…

After being selected by Boeing to develop an engine with 110,000 to 115,000 lbs of thrust, GE delivered the GE90115B engine, which now powers the longerrange Boeing 777200LR, 777300ER and 777 Freighter aircraft.

During certification testing in 2002, the GE 90–115B engine set a world record 127,900 lbs of thrust. The GE 90115B ran for approximately 60 hours at triple redline conditions (maximum fan speed, core speed and exhaust gas temperature) to evaluate the engine at its operational limits and demonstrate its capability beyond the most extreme operating conditions.

It took GE another 15 years to break the record which they did at 134,300 lbs of thrust with the new GE9X engine
