Designed to fill in the short route/small passenger niche that the Douglas DC3 was too big to fill at the time, the Douglas DC5 was the unfortunate victim of WW2. Only 5 civilian aircraft were ever built, and by the end of the war, all were flying for military commands in Australia, while a few more were built for the US Navy and Marine Corps for Personnel Transport and parachuting in small numbers of troops. This is a story of a potentially game chaning short haul airliner that got interrupted by real world events. A big shout out to the San Diego air and space museum for posting a lot of these pictures and the sole video I was able to find. This would have been a really short video without them.
