From the Vault: Replica USMC M40A1 Sniper Rifle

We usually associate Paul Levy with NEW products, but today he's at Rock Island Auctions with Brownells Gun Tech™ and resident expert on OLD guns, Keith Ford. Together, they show us a replica of a Vietnam War era Marine Corps M40A1 sniper rifle, with an extra twist. The stock has been autographed by legendary Marine sniper Carlos Hathcock, who achieved a total of 93 confirmed kills in Vietnam (but mostly with a Winchester Model 70, not an M40). This rifle was built on the correct Remington 700 receiver for a USMC M40, which may have even been originally earmarked at the factory for that purpose, but it was later built as a civilian replica to military specs. The boys show us all the authentic details, from the Redfield 39x scope with the odd greenishbronze hue to the finish, the heavy straightcontour barrel, the SEA camo scheme used on M40A1 stocks, and the leather military sling. Like all M40s, this rifle is chambered in 7.62x51mm NATO (.308 Winchester), and it has been correctly accurized to exhibit the impressive accuracy typical of original USMC M40s.
