Before the M1903 Springfield, even before the Lee Navy Model of 1895, there was the Springfield Model 189299, better known as the .3040 Krag, the U.S. military's first bolt action rifle. Derived from the Danish KragJørgensen rifle, the American Krag was chambered in the U.S. military's first smokeless powder cartridge, the .3040 Krag. Roy Hill tells us about his personal Krag, which is still in its original military configuration, never having been "sporterized." Roy demonstrates the rifle's features: a smooth, easyoperating bolt, a unique sideloading internal magazine, a rear sight graduated out to 2,000 yards (!), and a magazine cutoff lever for operating as a singleshot.
