The "big three" lifts are extremely valuable for building pure strength and size. The bench press, deadlift, and squat allow you to pile large amounts of weight on the bar, which simply translates to the best strength gains. Moves like the squat and deadlift have been shown to increase bone density and athletic performance, too, making them extremely valuable.

However, while all of this is true, there are still some scenarios that call for something different. In particular, the bench press, squat, and deadlift require a lot of space and weight!

Likewise, the big three don't cover every single aspect of strength and performance owing to their linear vectors, among other things.

That's where useful alternatives come in. Here are some alternative exercises that offer the same functional benefits as the big three lifts and, in some cases, additional, important advantages. They can be performed anywhere with a kettlebell and/or band. And they might just build your explosiveness and core strength even more!
