G Major Scale Adding Variations - Technique Lesson

Follow
FiddleHed

Description
We’ll learn how to play the G scale and add variation to it so that practice is more fun.

First we’ll start with the lower octave.
This is how it’s fingered: G0123D0123
We’ll play it up and down, then add the following rhythm variations:
• doublets
• triplets
• tucka
• hoedown
• slur 2
• slur 4
• swing doublets
• swing singles

Once you can do this G scale, you can also do D and A major with the SAME FINGERING.

Then we’ll do the upper octave of the G scale which is fingered like this:
D3A01L23E01L2

Try adding the rhythm variations to that.

Then we’ll do a 2 octave G scale up to third finger on E, fingered like this:
G0123D0123A01L23E01L23

At the end of the video, I play this with each variation we went over. You can play along with me, trying to stay in tune and in time.

Good beginner tunes to practice this scale would be:

I made some “Learning Chunks” on the FiddleHed site to help you do this. These focused exercises contain sheet music, tabs and mp3 snippets to guide you on each step of your fiddle journey.

These and all new lesson pages can be viewed for one week after publication with a FREE trial membership. Check it out here: https://fiddlehed.com

And after you sign up, I’ll also send you a minicourse of lessons specially designed for your skill level.

Alrighty. Play every day, have fun and thanks for making music

Now, go fiddle with it...
