Gallbladder surgery, like any surgery, carries its on set of risks. The risk of bleeding and infection are quite rare and often are reported to be less than 3%, however, there are some serious complications that can occur such as injury to surrounding structures, having a bile leak, and injury to the small bowel. These fortunately are quite rare and should be less than 1% of the time. Long term complications are having your gallbladder removed, are very infrequent. The most common one being those described of sense of diarrhea or urgency after fatty meals for the first several days or one to two weeks. Fortunately this resolves in nearly all cases.
