The interesting thing is, if you search for hiking GPS devices, this Garmin wrist GPS most likely not even going to come up. Instead, you will probably get some handheld GPS for hiking. And if you are simply looking for GPS device for hiking, you will probably be okay with the options. However, if you are looking for something more serious, Garmin Foretrex GPS is the way to go.

A brand new, upgraded and improved version of Garmin Foretrex 401, model 601 is the new rugged, waterproof GPS that you need. Is it the best GPS for hiking? Maybe in the top 10. But, if you look around the internet for the military GPS, models 401 and 601 will come.

To me, this is the best GPS watch for hiking, simply because it is also designed for tough situations. This Garmin GPS is designed to be used in combat and tactical situations. Rugged gear? It is built like a tank. So make sure to put this GPS on your wilderness survival kit list.
