My prior video, How to Fix a New Gas Can, really blew up on my channel with over a hundred colorful comments and thousands of views, way more than I’m used to getting!

We showed how to remove the locking tab that gets in our way when opening the can for fueling.

There’s a spring and latch mechanism in the spout that is impossible to operate. We fixed it!

And there’s a strainer in the container that stops the gas station pump from putting gas in your can!

Viewer comments suggested an alternative to completely removing the spring, for those that still want this safety feature. I’ll show you my take on this spring modification that will leave the spring action in place, but make the can easier to operate.

Another thing that can be improved on these cans is the air venting, to let air in as the gas spout is letting gas out. Unfortunately, with this container and spout design, the spout does double duty, acting as a vent in addition to letting the fuel out. This results in the can ’gulping’ for air, especially when pouring quickly. I’ll show you how to install an inexpensive vent that will improve how these cans pour.

The gas can in this video is the Midwest Can 5 gallon SafeFlo Line 5 gallon container, with the QuickFlow Spout, model 5610.
