Gaslighting Explained.

Moose Anger Management

Gaslighting is a manipulative tactic often used by someone trying to control another. The gaslighter feels they must control others to feel in control themselves, creating situations that sow selfdoubt and destroy confidence. This can happen in the workplace, at home, or even politically.

The gaslighter often acts from unexamined historic trauma, behaving immaturely as if a young, hurt part of them is in control. They believe it’s the end of the world if they don’t continue distorting reality to their benefit.

It usually takes a major emotional event for the gaslighter to stop, and for the target to exit the relationship. Recovery for the target involves creating emotional and physical safety in their lives in order to regain a sense of self and confidence.
