Georgia's president, locked in a standoff with her own government, said in an interview with Reuters on Monday the only way out of the crisis was a rerun of last month's disputed parliamentary elections.

President Salome Zourabichvili spoke to Reuters after a fourth night of clashes between protesters and police, after the governing Georgian Dream party announced last week that it was suspending talks on joining the European Union (EU).

Critics saw that as confirmation of a Russianinfluenced shift away from proWestern policies and back towards Moscow's orbit — something the ruling party denies.

Zourabichvili, whose powers are mainly ceremonial, said Russia, already at war in Ukraine, was conducting a "hybrid strategy" against Georgia.

Meanwhile, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday ruled out the possibility of talks between the government and the opposition which has boycotted the parliament and backed street protests.
