The diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes has larger implications than cutting back on treats during pregnancy. Women with a diagnosis of Gestational Diabetes may be at risk for other serious pregnancy complications including high blood pressure and preeclampsia, and are more likely to have a preterm delivery or a require a cesarean section, and have an increased chance of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. Babies of mothers who have gestational diabetes have higher incidence of hypoglycemia and/or jaundice after birth, and may be at increased risk of developing obesity and type 2 diabetes as adults.
