The ALICE community are often working full time but struggling to pay for basic living expenses.

The ALICE community teeters on the edge of poverty and stability, and are often vulnerable during times of crisis because they are more likely to be working hourly jobs. This means they are one crisis away from financial hardship. An unexpected medical event or cancellation of daycare can be a huge hit to the ALICE community.

It’s important to understand the ALICE community as part of our conversation around poverty and supportive services in the United States. When thinking about communities that may need help, we get a more full picture when thinking about both the low income community and the ALICE community.
