Oregon Trail may have been a fun computer game for millions of kids, either in spite of or due to the constant deaths from dysentery, but the reallife Oregon Trail was more terrifying than anything you’d encounter in the game.

Some of the people who traveled it came down with truly ghastly sicknesses, and it’s not like there was a doctor in every party to properly treat them.
