Ghosts of Tully Castle | Irish Folklore

The Jolly Reiver

Tully Castle by the shores of Lower Lough Erne in County Fermanagh is a 17th century castle built by Sir John Hume during the Plantation of Ulster. It was here on Christmas Day, 1641, that a terrible massacre took place. This castle is considered to be one of the most haunted in Ireland, and for good reason.

The Jolly Reiver is my project aiming to preserve and promote the forgotten folklore and history of rural Britain and Ireland. Primarily focusing on folklore and legends, you’ll not find me trying to deconstruct these old stories or trying to rationalise them with science and psychology. Instead I will present them as they were always told by our forebears, and leave the conclusions up to you. Videos are filmed on location to show you exactly where these stories took place.
