Gibsonville has been known as the "City of Roses" since at least 1920 when train passengers could see the large number of rose bushes along the railroad tracks at the Minneola Mill. The Gibsonville School, Francis Marion Smith House, and Simeon Wagoner House are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
