GIS Tutorial: Core GIS Concepts for Python JavaScript and GeoGames

Follow
GIScience

Class is in session! In this video I go over some core Geographic Information Systems (GIS) concepts. These concepts create the foundation for their use in specialized in GIS activities such as Python computer programming, creation of JavaScript apps, and incorporating real world GIS data sets into GeoGames.

Specifically, I discuss map projections, coordinate systems, GIS data models (raster and vector), basic mapping concepts, and cartography ideas.

As I discuss each of these concepts, I illustrate them using ArcGIS Pro software version 3.0. I also specifically discuss how each of the concepts are directly related to broader computing topics such as Python, JavaScript, and GeoGames.

This video will be particularly useful for people that may want to do GISrelated tasks using Python, JavaScript, and GeoGames but do not have any actual background in basic GIS Concepts that underline these technologies.

This tutorial was recorded during one of my lectures at the Rochester Institute of Technology and is based on this previously published video on this channel:
