A Montreux, ambiance méridionale sous les palmiers. Le train grimpe audessus du lac, passe un tunnel et vous voilà au milieu de forêts alpines, de torrents bondissants et de pittoresques villages de montagne. Le train vous conduit jusqu’à Zweisimmen à travers un paysage de contes de fées.

En matière de contraste, rien de plus saisissant que la traversée du tunnel de Jaman : on passe de la Méditerranée aux Alpes sans transition. Vous avez à peine quitté le lac Léman scintillant dans la plaine que défilent sous vos yeux sapins sombres et torrents tumultueux se jetant au fond de la vallée sous de hauts ponts.

Faites une halte à Rossinière pour y voir le Grand Chalet et ses 113 fenêtres ouvrant sur cette magnifique région. Il se trouve juste à côté de la gare. Le grand peintre Balthus y a vécu. A Châteaud’Oex, vous apercevrez peutêtre une montgolfière dans le ciel, ou même plusieurs, car c’est ici le pays des montgolfières. Puis les noms des villages passent du français à l’allemand. Vous entrez au Saanenland, connu dans le monde entier grâce à Gstaad, la mondaine. Schönried, Saanenmöser en font partie ainsi que Zweisimmen, où vous changerez de train.

Der Kontrast könnte nicht grösser sein, als der nach dem Tunnel bei Jaman: Fast wie vom Mittelmeer direkt in die Alpen. Haben Sie doch eben noch dem tief unter Ihnen schimmernden Genfersee adieu gesagt. Und jetzt ziehen an den gleichen Fenstern dunkle Tannen vorbei, sprudeln Bergbäche unter hohen Brücken zu Tal.

Halten Sie in Rossinière Ausschau, nach dem grössten Chalet. Es steht gleich neben dem Bahnhof. Balthus wohnte hier, der grosse Maler, mit Blick aus 113 Fenstern auf die wunderschöne Gegend. In Châteaud’Oex sehen Sie vielleicht einen Heissluftballon am Himmel vorbeiziehen, oder gleich mehrere. Die sind hier zu Hause. Die Stationsnamen wechseln von Französisch zu Deutsch. Sie sind im Saanenland, dem das mondäne Gstaad seinen Namen und seinen Weltruf verleiht. Schönried, Saanenmöser, sie gehören dazu. Und Zweisimmen, wo Sie umsteigen.



Starting with the Mediterranean ambiance of Montreux, the train climbs above the lake and passes through a tunnel. Coming out at the other end, you find yourself among alpine forests, bubbling mountain springs and picturesque mountain villages. The train continues to Zweisimmen, transporting you through fairytale landscapes.

In terms of contrast, there is nothing more striking than travelling through the Jaman tunnel. One passes from the Mediterranean to the Alps in no time at all. You have hardly left Lake Geneva sparkling in the plain, before you see the turbulent mountain streams tumbling into the sombre valley below high bridges and dark pine trees rolling past in front of you.

Make a stop in Rossinière to see the Grand Chalet with its 113 windows that look out over this beautiful region. It is located next door to the train station. Balthus, the great painter, also lived here. In Châteaud’Oex, it is possible to see a hot air balloon in the sky or perhaps several of them, as the area is known as the hot air balloon country. The names of the villages then change from French into German. You are now entering the Saanenland region, which is known throughout world thanks to fashionable Gstaad. Schönried and Saanenmöser are also part of this region as well as Zweisimmen, where you will change trains.
