EAST COAST SAILING

Hi & Welcome to East Coast Sailing. Im Rob & In this video ill show you how to remove your Gori Folding propeller from the Hub. I'm doing a full restoration of this 19 year old propeller. Ill be stripping down every component for inspection & servicing. Ill be replacing the propeller stops, changing both the anodes on the rear of the unit & on the hub. Someone clearly has worked on this unit who didn't know what they were doing. One of the guide pin threads was damaged as they hadn't removed the locking bolt which resulted in damage to the guide pin threads & the internal threads to the hub. I got a local engineering company Automill based in Colchester to fabricate a new guide pin with a bigger thread on the end and bore out the hub with a larger thread diameter to match. Luckily it was only one guide pin that was damaged. However the big blob of Loctite was a dead giveaway that it had been bodged. Imagine the damage this could have caused & could have lead to the engine loss or even worse sunk the boat if a blade came out at 3500 RPM. Once I cleaned up the propeller using a wire brush and metal polishing compounds, the propeller looked like new. I also had to get a new drive shaft made as it had crevasse corrosion, pitting and heavy scoring which would have damaged the new cutlass bearing & stern seal I just installed. The shaft replacement was very expensive at £650. Hopefully this will help someone out if you want to repair or service you gori folding propeller. Ill also cover the cost of all the work and serviceable parts.

I didn't send the propeller to Gori as there based in Denmark and the postage would have been £150 and the lead in time was over 10 weeks with no guarantee they would fix it. Also there costs are extortionate and it would have been nearly the same price as buying a new hub and guide pins with the postage.

The companies I used in the video are listed below as well as links to the product manuals for Gori.
