In this edition of Back in History, we take you back in time to the speech delivered by Gen. Yakubu Gowon – second military Head of State of Nigeria – few days after he was removed from power in a bloodless military coup plotted and executed by his friends in 1975. The speech took many people by surprise and Gowon simply threw in the towel, gave recognition to the new administration, and promised to serve Nigeria in any capacity that he may be called upon to serve by the new Government.
