Mesh gradients are an amazing way to colour objects in Inkscape. In this tutorial, I introduce you to the Gradient Mesh tool which allows you to create a flexible mesh of coloured nodes with smooth gradients between. I’ll be showing you how to use all the features of the mesh tool, I’ll point out where you may encounter problems and show you how to avoid them. We’ll look at the standard rectangular mesh, conical meshes and something inbetween.

By the end of this video, you’ll have a good working knowledge of all the features of the mesh tool and how to use them to achieve the results you want.

As an example, I’ll show you how you can create a sunset sky from a photo.

Whether you want to shade your art, paint beautiful skis or create abstract backgrounds, the Mesh Gradient tool could be exactly what you are looking for.

This effect works well for Tshirt designs, logos, banners and more.
