Learn how to graph linear equations written in standard form. When given a linear equation in standard form, to graph the equation, we first rewrite the linear equation in slope intercept form, (i.e. in the form y = mx + c, where m is the slope and c is the yintercept). Next we plot the yintercept and using the slope, we can determine the rise and the run of the required line and then be able to plot the next point from the yintercept. Finally, we draw a straight line passing through the two plotted points.

Alternatively, we can determine the xintercept and the yintercept of the standard form linear equation by subtituting y = 0, then solve for x and substituting x = 0, then solve for y respectively. Recall that the xintercept is the value of x when y = 0 and the yintercept is the value of y when x = 0. After obtaining the values of the xintercept and the yintercept, we plot the points on the coordinate plane and then draw a line passing through the points.
