Greek tortoises (Testudo graeca), are some of the most familiar and beloved tortoises in the world! They are beautiful, charismatic and no two are the same. But, did you know that only one type of Greek tortoise is found in portions of Greece? It’s true and these animals actually got their name from the Greek mosaiclike pattern on their and not from the location in which they’re found! I’m reality, these tortoises come from places like Southeast Asia, North Africa and the Middle East. Learn about a few distinct Greek tortoise subspecies along with some interesting facts in this fun introduction!
