In February 1979, Greg Valentine and Bob Backlund fought to a onehour time limit draw at Madison Square Garden.

Back at MSG in October 1981, Valentine seemingly beat Backlund and was awarded the World Wrestling Federation Championship. The title would change hands next month to Backlund but was rarely acknowledged by WWF moving forward.
