It is a migratory bird that passes through Korea in spring and autumn.
It breeds in eastern Siberia and spends winter in Korea, Japan, and China. As a global rare bird, it is listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Fauna and Flora and is protected worldwide.
It has a body length of about 40 cm and a wingspan of about 21 cm. In males, the front half of the face is yellow and the back half is glazed with green with a black band in the center as a border.
