Guided tour of the Saguenay Fjord in Quebec

Autour du monde

In this new episode, we visit the Saguenay Fjord region, one of the most picturesque places in Quebec with its towns and villages between river and mountain. The Fjord itself is a tourist attraction. It is 160 kilometers long, its seabed is up to 275 meters deep and beluga whales live there year round.

The loop trip we made, starting from SaintSiméon in Charlevoix, is 315 kilometers long.

On this day trip, we make stops at Les Palissades, a mountain adventure park that offers a spectacular view shaped by the last ice age.

On the way to the village of PetitSaguenay, we stop at Sagard, a hamlet in the middle of the forest that offers an enchanting setting.

Once a mono industrial town, PetitSaguenay is known for its family vacation village, which is very popular for its many activities. You can easily spend a few hours in the area which offers several trails that will lead you to PointeauxCrêpes or AnseauxBasques, with breathtaking views of the Saguenay River.

We also make a stop in the former city of La Baie, now a district of the larger city of Saguenay. Its port welcomes gigantic liners that sail up the Fjord from Tadoussac.

Located at the confluence of the Chicoutimi and Saguenay rivers, Chicoutimi is the main urban center of the SaguenayLacStJean region. Initially occupied by the natives, a trading post was erected there around 1671. The most emblematic place of this sector is the visit of the small white house. The house has become a symbol of the resistance and resilience of the inhabitants of the region following the floods of the Saguenay River in the summer of 1996.

We complete the day with a stop in SainteRoseduNord. Nicknamed the pearl of the Fjord, this village is popular with tourists who visit its wharf by the thousands for a breathtaking view of the Fjord.
