Dr. Ken Wilgus has developed a parenting process he calls “planned emancipation” whereby parents prepare their teens for adulthood by gradually giving them authority over their own decisions. Reallife moms Jessica and Ashley join Dr. Wilgus to share their experiences with this planned emancipation, as well as some of their struggles in implementing the process. They address the problem of teen entitlement and how to combat that with serving others. They also reviewed a list of common parenting mistakes such as lecturing, getting too involved, and not differentiating between advice vs. “haveto” rules. Finally, they discussed how and why parents must eventually let their teens make their own decisions about church and faith.
