The name Gustav bears great power. In ancient norse, it means "Staff of the Goths". From a more latin angle, it was interpreted as Augustus ruler of the world. On the 9th of December, 1594, a child was born in the palace of Stockholm Gustav Adolf. In thirtysix years, the child would decide the fate of Europe. His countrymen would name him The Great, but to the protestant world he would forever be called: Der Löwe aus Mitternacht: Lion of the North!
