Ireland, 12, is a Texas StateChampion gymnast who has been dedicated to gymnastics for the last nine years. In 2019, she won the state title despite chronic overuse injuries in her back, hip and Achilles tendon, but didn’t say anything because she didn’t want to be held back from competing. Ireland’s injuries were affecting her, but weren’t revealed until after she collapsed from pain the night she won the championship. After working with doctors and physical therapists at the Children’s Health Andrews Institute, Ireland is almost back to 100% and continues physical therapy multiple times each week. Ireland is not only grateful for the care and understanding the Children’s Health Andrews Institute team has provided, but is now proactive about making sure her teammates don’t endure the same overuse injuries she had.
