May 17, 1987 the USS Stark (FFG31) was struck by two AM39 exocet missiles, killing 37 US Sailors and injuring 21. The US claimed that an Iraqi Mirage F1EQ fired the missiles, but since allegations have been made that is was an Iraqi modified business jet. There is interesting evidence to support this claim and how it happened.
