The Singer 500 Series, the fantastic Rocketeers. We are going to take the handwheel apart on Singer 500 J and see what we find.
The parts will be cleaned, washed and dried before oiling and testing.

CLEANING: First oil, oil and more oil. If oil cannot clean the 'gunk' then an as many applications of degreaser as required.
WASHING: Wash the degreaser away with dishwashing liquid and water. Then a clean water rinse.
THIS IS IMPORTANT!!! After washing the parts and rinsing them; immediately blow dry them with a hair dryer. FLASH RUST IS FAST! Flash rust can render a machine inoperable!
OILING: The last step is a proper oiling and lubrication.
