Not only is this one of my favorite Halloween movies, but the composer John Carpenter is from my hometown of Bowling Green, Kentucky. We both attended Western Kentucky University as music students, and Carpenter's father taught music history and theory at WKU for many years (unfortunately, before my time there). I'm grateful to be teaching music at WKU now, myself!

Fun fact! Although "Halloween" wasn't filmed in Bowling Green, there are many references to street names and nearby towns from Bowling Green. A few times, characters in "Halloween II" reference Chestnut Street which is the exact street in Bowling Green where this video was filmed!

“I suppose that most of who I am and what I believe in was figured out walking around the grounds of the Kentucky Building (in Bowling Green) after dinner when the sun’s going down... I don’t think I’ve been in a more beautiful spot in all my life. And the thoughts of life and death, people, beauty, cruelty, fear... whatever I was thinking about, I thought about walking by myself there. I was a loner, but I grew up in a paradise. I kind of became who I am now.” — John Carpenter, 1999

Thank you, John, for being such a musical inspiration and local legend!
