Genesis is a graphic novel that serves as a prelude to the events of Halo Wars, introducing us to the origin stories of the main characters: Captain Cutter, Professor Anders, Sergeant Forge and Ripa Moramee.

However, it also delves into the events prior to the game and gives us a look at what the first confrontations between the UNSC and the Covenant were like, after first contact on the planet of Harvest.

When the UNSC ship Prophecy is boarded by Covenant forces, Admiral Cole assigns the Spirit of Fire, a support ship, to evacuate the crew and implement Cole's protocol. At the same time, Professor Ellen Anders will be secretly recruited to support the investigation of this fearsome and unknown alien enemy.

Meanwhile, in Covenant territory, the prophet of sorrow will be in charge of recruiting a promising candidate to fill the position of the Inquisitor: Ripa Moramee.
