Forgotten Cemeteries of the PNW

Matthew 10 : 34 reads "Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword."

Today we meet a few individuals that took part in war or just outright avoided it and found their final resting place at Harmony Cemetery located in Polk County Oregon.

One of our earlier stops includes the Schoppert plot, more specifically Peter's story. We learn just how quickly the political climates changed back then. Peter however was having none of it. He took his family and outright left Crimea, Ukraine to avoid the new oppressive Kings requirements of war and worship.

We stop by one of the more unique headstone designs we've seen on this channel and learn some astronomy.

A few civil war veterans can be found here and let's hear the story of the Confederate special forces unit, The Cow Cavarly....no cow left behind! We also hear just how war torn Tennessee was during the civil war as we see an example of brothers versus brother.

Finally we discover a Bannock Indian War veteran and learn of Oliver Otis Howard "The Christian General" who seems fitting for our religious cemetery visit. A man with no sympathy and he tells you what to do.

Overall, this cemetery falls into my Oregon top 5. A simple quiet one located just south of highway 18. Something made me feel at ease about the world on this visit. Not sure if it was the cow creepily watching me from the fence line, the church, the spirits, or just another beautiful sunny day out in Oregon country. However, if you need to think on life and get your head squared away this is the visit for you.
