When the Right to Counsel law was enacted in 2017, the City committed to protecting the rights of tenants facing eviction, and that means logistical support for the implementation of eviction defense in Housing court.

In 2022, The eviction moratorium has been lifted while the city is still dealing with the pandemic and its impacts. Housing Court Moves forward at full speed despite the pleads of legal service providers to slow down the calendaring of cases. A significant amount of tenant's are facing Housing Court w/o representation, undermining the role of the Right to Counsel.

We need to hear from the current Mayor what the city will do to ensure tenants are protected in this very dire time of recovery and resilience for New Yorkers.
