The Sintra Line is one of the most heavily used lines in Europe, providing a rail link between Lisbon and Sintra, in Portugal. It is one of the most important railway infrastructures in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area, guaranteeing connections to the Lisbon/Amadora/Sintra corridor and also serving, in addition to these municipalities, the north of the municipality of Oeiras. The railway between Lisbon and Sintra was one of the first to be planned in Portugal, although it was only inaugurated on April 2, 1887. The line originally started in AlcântaraTerra, having passed to Rossio when the former entered the service in June 1891. The line was completely doubled on January 20, 1949, and in the 1950s it underwent an extensive modernization program, which included the electrification of the track and the introduction of sophisticated signaling systems. In the 1990s, another phase of modernization of the line began, with the installation of new safety equipment and circulation control, refurbishment and quadrupling of the railway track, and the introduction of new rolling stock.

A Linha de Sintra é uma das linhas com maior densidade de utilização na Europa faz a ligação ferroviária entre as localidades de Lisboa e Sintra, em Portugal. É uma das infraestruturas ferroviárias mais importantes da Área Metropolitana de Lisboa, garantindo as ligações do corredor Lisboa/Amadora/Sintra e servindo também, para além destes concelhos, o norte do concelho de Oeiras. O caminho de ferro entre Lisboa e Sintra foi um dos primeiros a serem planeados em Portugal, embora só tenha sido inaugurado em 2 de Abril de 1887. A linha iniciavase originalmente em AlcântaraTerra, tendo passado para o Rossio quando aquela entrou ao serviço, em Junho de 1891. A linha foi totalmente duplicada em 20 de Janeiro de 1949, e na década de 1950 foi alvo de um extenso programa de modernização, que incluiu a electrificação da via e a introdução de sistemas de sinalização sofisticados. Nos anos 90 iniciouse outra fase de modernização da linha, com a instalação de novos equipamentos de segurança e controlo da circulação, remodelação e quadruplicação da via férrea, e introdução de novo material circulante.
