Heat Exchanger Pressure Relief

Follow
Institution of Mechanical Engineers - IMechE

This Process Industries Division Event has been organised by the Process Industries Division Centres in the North West and Yorkshire Regions.

John Whitaker will provide an overview of the various types of heat exchangers that are seen in industry and go on to discuss a structured approach to identifying potential causes of overpressure in these units for example fire, heat transfer into a closed system, and interstream leakage. He will review the options for design of pressure relief for heat exchangers once the relevant overpressure causes have been identified. He will include some case studies from industry. He will also provide some background on the standards and guidelines that should be referred to when carrying out this type of work, with particular reference to guidance on fast transient overpressure events that can sometimes occur in tube failure events.
